Continued education and training

Last updated on 11 February 2009

In terms of Clause 10 of the SAIV Constitution, each Member shall be encouraged to devote time to obtain CET credits. This has also been underlined by the recent requests from the SACPVP with regard to CET's credits. Each registered person is expected to fill in a form (also available on this website) reflecting the CET's obtained during the past year, i.e. from 01 April 2007 to 30 March 2008. Find below a list of all the functions provided by the SAIV during this period

The South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP) and Continued Education & Training (CET)

Registration of a professional valuer or a single-residential property assessor will as from 1 April 2007 be for only 5 years, but it will be renewed if the Council is satisfied that the conditions relating to CET have been complied with. See Board Notice 96 of 2006, Fifth Amendment to Rules, which was gazetted on 25 August 2006 (Gazette No. 29133). These conditions have now been finalized by the Council.

The SAIV will continue with its work in education and all other aspects in conjunction with the SACPVP.

The SACPVP has indicated that they will be prepared to accept certified letters from the SAIV indicating the number of CET Credits a member had achieved over the period. On 31 March 2009 Branch Secretaries will send attendance registers together with details of the CET related activities to the General Secretary for processing. Please note - it is not the SAIV’s responsibility to record non SAIV CET related activities that a member may have attended, this would be up to the member.

Guidelines for the awarding of CET Credits by the SAIV for SAIV Related activities:

  • Monthly Workshop: 1 CET Credit;
  • SAIV Seminars/Conference: 1 CET Credit per completed instructional hour.

Members need to liaise with the SACPVP with regard to all other activities such as watching workshop/seminar/conference DVDs, reading property related publications, attending workshops/seminars/conferences presented by bodies other than the SAIV, etc.

An issue has been raised regarding members attending a SAIV workshop/seminar/conference and purchasing the DVD made of the proceedings at the function and claiming double CET Credits. This is not acceptable. CET Credits are awarded for attending the workshop/seminar/conference or purchasing, and watching, the DVD but not for both.
