Any person contemplating registration as a Professional
Associated Valuer with the South African Council for
the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP) must successfully
attend a practical work school and pass the examination
forming part of the practical work school:
- Since 1991, when this SACPVP requirement was introduced,
the South African Institute of Valuers (SAIV) has
been acting as agent for the SACPVP by presenting
this work school and fulfilling one of its many
training and educational obligations
- The SAIV is still the only voluntary association
presenting this practical training. Currently, two
work schools are presented annually at the Northern
and Southern branches. Those who are interested
in attending such a practical work school, should
please contact the relevant
branch secretaries. The current cost of the practical
work school is in the order of R2,000:
- PRACTICAL WORKSCHOOL: 27 - 31 JULY 2009 AT THE SAINT GEORGE HOTEL, PRETORIA
As the title implies, the programme steers clear of the theory of valuation and concentrates on "hands-on" experience. Carefully selected topics are presented by experts.
Provision is made for Professionals who would like to attend only a specific lecture or lectures.

- PROPERTY VALUATION PRACTICAL WORK SCHOOL
PRESENTED BY THE SOUTHERN BRANCH OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF VALUERS
2009 CAPE WORKSCHOOL
"Due to the poor response to the planned Workschool which was to take place in May and June 2009, the Workschool has been postponed, and is now planned for October/November 2009. Details will follow in due course."
In terms of the rules of the SA Council for the Property Valuers Profession any Candidate Valuer has to attend a practical work school, as part of his/her training before an application for re-registration purposes can be considered.
The Education Committee of the Southern Branch of the South African Institute of Valuers (SAIV) will present such a course, accredited by the SA Council for the Property Valuers Profession. It will most probably be presented at the premises of The Institute of Estate Agents of South Africa, Suite 2, Howard Centre, Sheldon Way, Pinelands, pending final arrangements in this respect.
Note!! Attendance of the course will be subject to the following:
- It is compulsory for Candidate Valuers to attend ALL lectures
- NB: The course is aimed at students who are at least at third year level
- Candidate Valuers have to pass the practical examination and theoretical examination set during the course, to obtain a credit from the Council for successfully attending the work school
- Course fees will be in the order of R2 100 (including VAT) per candidate, payable on first day of lectures.
- Do not miss this opportunity, which was very well received by students in 2008!

- Who Qualifies for the Practical Work school?
- Any person contemplating registration as
a Professional Associated Valuer with the SACPVP.
This infers that the person has completed an
accredited academic qualification (National
Diploma Real Estate (Valuations), etc.) recognised
by the SACPVP
- Persons who have achieved an accredited academic
qualification or those who are busy with a final-year
valuation subject such as Property Valuation
III (National Diploma). The School is
not intended for students in their first or
second year of study
- All Members of the SAIV who feel the need
for a refresher course or who would like to
attend specific lectures. In such instances
attendances will be charged out on a per lecture
basis, with the current rate in the order of
R250 per lecture
- The SAIV may also proceed to present a practical
work school for the registration category Single
Residential Property Assessor. This will be done
once the SACPVP has accepted our proposal in this
respect. It is anticipated that the course will
be held over three full days and that it will initially
only be presented in Gauteng. Should this elicit
sufficient demand over a period of time, the SAIV
will also consider a similar course in Cape Town.
